Emirates launched the first moisturising sleepsuits, infused with sea kelp microcapsules, in December 2016, which appear exclusively in its First Class cabins on global flight routes. The range has had incredible feedback, with passengers reporting the benefits of the sleepsuits.

The design of the sleepsuits and the natural ingredients used in the microcapsules were updated to include shea butter and argan oil in 2019.

Emirates is continuing to pioneer advances in customer well-being and experience.

The Brief

Emirates is a brand that puts customer experience, pioneering new products and technologies at the heart of everything it does, which meant innovating its onboard sleepsuits was a logical next step. Emirates approached Hydra Active™ to develop a range of sleepsuits to enhance the travel experience for passengers in its First Class cabin.

The Work

Traveller wellbeing was the priority when Hydra Active™ and Emirates started developing the range of sleepsuits. Whilst face and hand moisturisers are included in amenity kits, aircrafts are generally dry environments. Hydra Active™’s Microcapsule technology was the ideal solution, bringing innovation to the sleepsuit category.

Billions of microcapsules applied to the fabric gently release active ingredients, giving it moisturising properties that can help skin feel moisturised for at least 30 washes following a flight. Collaborating closely to ensure the sleepsuits reflected the overall Emirates amenity offering, Hydra Active™ developed a bespoke product infused with microcapsules of sea kelp.

For 2019, the ingredients used in the microcapsules were updated from sea kelp to shea butter and argan oil, both naturally high in vitamins and fatty acids, to help combat dry skin and help protect the skin's natural oils.
